Course Overview

HIPAA has changed drastically since 1996 and most dental practices are confused as to what applies to them versus a large hospital. HIPAA Then & Now will break down what is applicable to the small dental practice and give the practice some easy tips to get (and stay) compliant.

There are two versions of this course, a two hour and four hours options. The two hour course is intended for dinner sessions and is a shortened version of HIPAA for dental practices. The longer version has more in-depth specifics and action items for offices to start or continue their journey to compliance.

Learning Objectives

  • Learn the basics of HIPAA, the HITECH Act and the Omnibus Final Rule
  • Clarify what is reasonable and appropriate for your size of practice
  • Understand where your Protected Health Information is located and how to protect it
  • Discuss your Business Associates and how to lower the risk they pose to your practice
  • Explore current standards of practice for IT Due Diligence
  • Identify your vulnerabilities
  • Create a short term and long term action plan to get, and keep, your practice HIPAA compliant

This is a 1 hour course

Today’s climate of cybersecurity has changed and dental practices are often and easy target. This course will give you examples of targeted attempts that could take your practice down and how to prevent falling victim to them.

  • Understand safety precautions to avoid a costly mistake

Building on the content of our HIPAA Then & Now course, this deep dive course is intended for Office Managers that have been tasked with being the HIPAA Privacy and/or Security Officer for their dental practice. Attendees will leave with a commanding understanding of both HIPAA Privacy and Security rules to implement targeted and effective compliance improvements in their practice..

This is a 2 hour course to be done immediately after HIPAA Then & Now or as a standalone 6 hour course

HIPAA For Business Associates

This is a 3 hour course

This course is intended for IT Managed Service Providers that work with Healthcare Clients. With an overview of HIPAA Privacy Rule and and in depth look at HIPAA Security Rule, attendees will walk away understanding their new role as a Business Associate, how to protect themselves as well as how to protect their clients.
